Maybe somone can help Me out here.Is Viega bifasciata and cichlasoma bifasciatum, the same fish?I,m thinking cichlasoma is the old classification and viega the newest but My memory isn't the greatest

I belive you're correct, though it's Vieja not Viega. Cichlasoma seems to be just a temporary genus for unclassified Cichlids.
No, Cichlasoma is a valid genus used for the South American Port Cichlids. But previously alot of differant cichlids (including pretty much all the central americans) were at one time included in Cichlasoma.
