Hey guys! I'm interested in getting a vieja argentea anf regani. I have a 90 gallon growout that they would go in untill about 5-6 inches then it would be in a 125 gallon. Tank mates in the 90 gallon are 4 wild caught green terrors 2-2.5 inches. 1 3 inch regular tank raised green terror. 4 geophagus redhead tapajos 2-2.5 inches. 1 jack dempsey 2.5 inches. And 1 4.5 inch firemouth. As you can see all fish are still quite small. And the vieja and regani if I do get them would be 2.5 inches. Ive heard the argentea are the most aggressive vieja. But will these tank mates work out? I know the geos cant hold their own so they would have their own seperate tank once grown. If I grow them up from small size together would I be okay? What are some tank mates people keep viejas with? Would love to see some pictures of some peoples viejas as well!!!
Thanks guys

What's the final stock on the 125? From my understanding argentea is one of the two most aggressive the other being blackbelts. I have my blackbelt in a 90 with a Sal and Midevil at the moment. I say just watch for aggression and be aware vieja slaughters are usually out the blue ime

Argentea get huge too. Pretty sure regani do as well but I've never kept one.

My Argentea is pushing 15" at about 18 months. Very aggressive fish too.

Final stock on the 125 will probably be 4 wild caught green terrors (quite aggressive definatly can hold their own) and jack dempsey. What would be a good vieja to get with what I have for fish?

I'd leave it at that, with 4 terrors you'll probably get a pair then that tank will get real small for anything that's not the pair

Although it all depends on the personality and whether or not they have alpha tendencies.
Both argentea and regani can get very aggressive in a tank as small as a 125.
My experience has been at maturity you'd need something around or above the 300 gal range, or your other fish will most likely be killed.
The argentea below took out a managuense and dovii when its alpha-ness kicked in, in a 150 gal. And the regani killed a few red devils, and a carpintus in a 220gal.

Each had to be given its own tank.

GT max out at 10" and are no match with 15" Vieja. I have no experience with wild caught GT, but domesticated strains are one of the most mellow big cichlids, about the same as Jack Dampsey
