I have just aquired a 3" v.argentea and 2" Herichthys Carpintis. they seem quite happy as a pair on their own but have together ganged up on afew mixed growouts i had them temporally housed with. So i am now rehousing them in a 6 or 7 ft tank and need some advice on tankmates that will be ok with them, maybe 2 more large cichlids and advice on a couple of shoals of smaller colourful dither fish.
advice is needed and will be really apreciated
regards Angel

Yep i did read it, just didn't read anything about a shoal of dither fish and wasn't sure about them fish with with my carpintis as well

I have the following in my 180:

14 Tiger barbs
4 V. Argentea
1 Green Saum
2 Male Convicts
1 Severum
1 FM

They all get along, but all cichlids are around 2-3 inches with the exception of the 'Terror' which is 6 inches. I don't know how well it will work out when they grow up a bit. Only one barb has died, and I believe that was due to a fight with another barb.

I don't see that big of an issue here, unless the argentea becomes one of those individuals that just won't tolerate tankmates

thanks guys. I like severums but was worried they would not hold there own against a argentea. How about rainbow fish will a shoal of them be ok and also nicaraguensis.

I have 3 argentea in my 125 with other various cichlids, silver dollars, pictus cats and clown loaches (growing them out for my 180) and the only fish they show agression against are the 6 silver dollars in the tank. I think it may have to do with the overall color of those fish. The silver dollars are on average 5 inches and are large and fast enough to stay out of harms way.
