so, today afternoon i noticed that my pair of young bifasciatus had spawned and there are about 300 fertile eggs in the flower pot i stuck in a couple days ago.
the tank is a 120g and besides the pair, there's a clownknife that's about a foot long or so.
my fear right now is that my clown will eat the eggs or young when they hatch so i need to prepare do something.
i knew they were going to spawn sooner or later for a long time now, but i don't know where to put the young when they hatch.
so could someone give me some input on what they would do?
i have a 20g long that i could set up, but it would obviously not be cycled.
or i could divide the 120g, but there could be a possibility that the young might go through the divider one night and get eaten.
i'm thinking of removing the young as soon as they hatch or something, but i don't know if that's a safe idea.
what can i do to save these young? could i just remove the young out of the tank right after they hatch and feed them on my own? or would it be better to leave the parents with it. currently the 7 or 8" male won't even let the smaller female get near it or even my hand. but at night the clown knife will probably own.
i've breed convicts many times a few years ago, but i didn't have a problem of a predator in the tank and i had a few tanks running at that time. so this is sort of challenging, but will be more rewarding for me
will try and get pics up if i can find my camera or any camera
thanks for any input

thank you davey.
bad news, i checked this morning to see all the eggs gone and eaten.
guess the pair was too young.
im going to lay them off for a week or two and start again.
in the mean time i think i'm going to go ahead and set-up the 20g long for the time being.

off topic, but for any other fellow nova members here.
they have a pair of very young unidentified pikes at super pets.
think they're about $30 and somewhere around 3-4" long.
they've got great coloration on them especially the dominant male in the tank.
some one should check them out and try and identify them.

okay, so it's been awhile.
right now, i have about fifty hatched fry in my 120g and the mama seems to be protecting them pretty well.
on the other hand the other half of the eggs have not hatched yet and idunno if its normal but im pretty sure they are fertile because there are only a few white ones while some others are dark yellow.
what should i do at this moment?
it's pretty late right now. 1am and i have a feeling these fry just hatched in the last hour because i checked around 9pm and they weren't even hatched.
should i remove the eggs and fry into another set up tank.
right now they hatched in the 120g and i dont think they will survive if i dont remove them now or sooner.
i fear that the other fish will get them or the mother will eat them again like she did last time.
would the fry survive if i were to move them into another established tank?
