Vieja breeding

Question for vieja experts, trying to breed my 2 v. Gutts. I just picked up a male about 2 weeks ago the female I bought young and raised her she's 8 months and laying eggs about 2x month. When I first introduced them they fought so I put an egg crate in with a hole that is big enough for the male to go through but not the female. He goes over a lot and retreats when he needs to and they are finally not chasing each other but still have a stare down. How long till they pair up? Or will they ever pair up?

Sounds like the female is larger than the male. With that said, you wont get any spawning out of them until the male gets larger and proves to the female that he is worthy. The female may even kill the male because he is smaller.

I agree with Madness. I had a pair of zonatus (very similar species) equal in size, the female killed the male just after spawning. And just because you have a male and female, doesn't mean they are a compatible pair, only time will tell.
