Cool thanks guys. the reason I'm wondering is that I already tried with my female flowerhorn, twice on two seprate occasions in two different tanks. Suffice to say, it didn't work either time. And for the reasons fishingout mentioned; my Female's a killer and he didn't want her around.
The reason I'd mention blood parrot is that I've paired midas/rd with them on several occasions, and It's worked beautifly every time, I believe because of male cichlids' attraction to 'plump' females (I guess given the correlation to fecundity this usually sugessts) along with the added bonus that a bp can't really fight so its totally up to the male to decide wheter its going to work or not. Usually when he decides that he wants to (and the male has for me 100% of the time when they're the same colour), there are very few if any fights after.
Its for these reasons that I'd want to pair him with a parrot.
in regard to your comments BIG_ONE, thanks for the info I didn't realize that about RBK. I do have several fish that are the result of a similar pairing, and the ones that didn't turn yellow are stunning parrots. I actually believe though that they are a cross of (Syn x BP)x(bpxmidas). I have an old post that has pictures of the best one if you search my posts, he's a fader though.
BIG_ONE:
Thanx for your comments, and I might try this. I personally think fene looks better than synspi, so I'm considering trying it with a KKP or Mammon.
What size female would you suggest I try it with,
and what size tank?
When I upgrade my fene's tank I'll probably get some KKP, but for breeding
what setup would you suggest?
I'm thinking
one male with multiple females in a large tank
or
Divider method
or
Single pair
Which one of these do you think would be best?
Also, where could I find good quality, proven (or at least fertile) KKP females?
I live in Oklahoma.
Thanks for your help. It'd be fun to get some RBK babies sometime soon
