vieja ID please

ok had these two since i got into cichlids from a friend who didnt treat them well.

is this a melanurus ? and a bifasciatum

and i suppose both males they just started fighting ill have to seperate them soon.

The more brightly colored one seems to be a female Synspilum. The other one I don't know. I hope that helps.

yea its hard to ID them iv looked at SOOOO many pics and fish in the store and cant really figure it out.

I concur. A male Hartwegi and female Synspilum.

One on the right in the first pic looks like a bifa to me. Same face as mine.

yea it was supposed to a bifa.........im not so sure after buying a few books/looking at net.

the one on the left in the first pic was skinned and upright when i walked in my fish room today, the other one must have beat him for the 6 hours i wasnt in there......

The last couple pix does seem kinda like a Vieja bifasciatus AKA Chuco and Paratheraps, junior synonyms.


Any good side/whole body shots of it?

My guess is Vieja Synspilum on the brightly, multi-colored one and Vieja Guttulatum mix on the other one. I think if you separate them, the Gutty my show its brighter colors.
