I posted some pictues of this guy a while ago and never got a positive or agreed upon ID. He is in my 125g and starting to get aggressive. I am worried he might decide one day to pick on my L14 pair, so sadly it is time for him to move on. Before I list him I want to try and get a good ID. let me know what you think. In the past people said : zonatus, hartwegi, and fenestratus
not the best picture. Will try for a better one Sunday

I'd go with a vieja hartwegi also known as a tailbar cichlid. Wondering what you feed it for it's temperament to become so aggressive? Ever give it any vegetation like romaine lettuce...my viejas love them.

Its not a hartwegi.

I've got hartwegi and seen others and they don't look like that.

Most vieja are aggressive to start.

Thanks for the input

as far as veggies I have a lot of silver dollars so there a lot of greens in my tank. I never seen him touch the stuff

I am sure things vary depending on what part of the country you are in, but I am finding out here in the midwest that vieja species are being crossed almost as much as citrinellus and labiatus, to the point that unless I can get a species from a reputable breeder, I often have to chalk things up as a cross, especially when looking for breeding stock.
