Went to the lfs and they had a batch of 30-40 vieja melanarus 1"-2". All was well with the batch except for one fish, a fading orange fella. I was confused, asked the people and they said that their breeder is usually really good about keeping his fish properly labeled and breed.

This lfs has a lot of really nice selection of fish, some of the selection are syns, bifasciatus, red texas, flowerhorns, large black piranhas and 2 " black piranhas at 25$ (seriously amazed that they had these guys!! very cool but then again this pet store rocks), so I don't have a doubt that they are confident it their breeders and their selection of fish-be it hybrid a or pure. I posted my small synspilums on here and their color for a 4" syn is amazing.

I breed red texas so I'm familiar with the peeling process, that's why this guy caught my eye.

Anyone know if there are melanarus morphs like pink fenestras? Or does his fading guarantee hybridization?

I couldn't pass on him so here is a video of him in my tank.

Looks like it could be. No one will be able to say for sure though, if the store knows the breeder see if you can get in contact with them and inquire about the lineage.

I've seen a couple morphs of bifa and most people know of the fenestratus so it'd definitely a possibility.
