hey guys,
i have 4 veija which in a previous thread were identified as more than likely synspilium x blackbelt. i have a male and a female which seem to make a nice pair but now and again turn a bit aggresive against the other two females. slight nipped fins and chasing.

should i remove the two females at this stage or could he possibly pair with one of them?
other tankmates are synodontis catfish 2 severums 1 flowerhorn and silver dollars.

if any 1 has bred veija, i would appreciate their advice
thanks

I had one male synspilum and two females I grew out from juvies. When they matured, the male syn. would take turns spawning with both females. I had to provide plenty of cover for the "spare" female due to the chasing and nipping until the female would drop her eggs. Once the "paired" female layed the harrasement would stop utill the male switched up again. I would normally leave the fry in with the parents for a few weeks and they were completely focused on the young and not the extra female. All fish have different personalities, but I would leave the extra females in unless the chasing is relentless or gets brutal.

thanks i agree with what you say about different personalities i had 2 red devils one i could put my hand in and rub the other would attack me lol
i will keep an eye on them and if need be get rid of the (spares)
what fish did you have with them?

sounds good. added a red spot sev and a green sev the other day. think i will remove one of the female vieja though. i have a shoal of colombian red fin tetra whick dont get bothered at all
