of all Viejas that youve kept. Which is meanest or nicest? Im talkin cichlids so i think you should know what kind of personality brings this kind of question.
Pls do name the ones you've actually kept, and name nicest and/to meanest. U can add other descriptions like annoying, brave, sneaky, ect. if youd like.

I've kept, gutullatus, fenestratus, zonatus, synspilus, argentea and breidohris.

For me, the gutu was nasty. The breidohris are not so killer so they are the nicest..

Please share your experience for those that want to add viejas to their tanks.

vieja paratheraps :chillpill::headbang2:popcorn::nilly::drool::drool::eek::popcorn::chillpill::chillpill::chillpill: they are cool cichlids

Fenestratus Catamaco. They have lots of big teeth and use them often. They are on the only ones that seem to have well with my amphilophus.

My Veija/Paratheraps Fenestratus (pink) is a nutcase. Loads of personality. By far the most active fish in my tank. He does like to chase a smaller carpintis, but never any damage. Hes about 3-4in. Not really sure if its male or female. This thing EATS though. Everytime i feed his stomach gets sooo bloated because he gobbles. Sure is growing fast though.

So are you saying they are the nicest or meanest?

Bud? I did not ask about mine :)

Im asking for your experience.

:grinno:

Gutu was the only killer and he killed my fene when i went out.
Bdoris just chase around andsmack talk just just Fishingout's Catemaco fenes. Looks like the pink catemaco fenes are good for it.

my experiece= fenestratus by far the nastiest. followed by maculicauda (blackbelt) , then probably argentea. then its a toss up with synspilums, bifas, and zonatum.

Which Vieja had killed being with you?

My Gutu killed my fene when i left out. But i was inexperienced for keeping them 8"ers in a 60g by themselves. It was temporary housing but the killing happened right away as i left.

I really want to know which of them are the nicest and ok for community.

Vieja maculicauda is the only one i owned. It could be nasty. It would punk out my trimacs and killed off a snakehead within a month. Made me get rid of it and start my 125 over. The cichlids were only 5" long and the snakehead was almost 10".

I would say heteorospilus are the least aggressive and I think there the smallest of the genuses, I have heard that Regani are rather mellow.
It may be a hit or miss on any sp though, I have had a synsplilum that was like an Oscar and Ive had one that killed anything, same with Argentea.
