Came across a few posts that said the only way to accurately sex Vieja is by venting them. Does this mean that females color up the same as males do?

My two are very similar in color but they also are different sizes. Whether my one is a female is my assumption based on their differences but it could just be a smaller male. You should post up pictures the people here are pretty good at answering questions with a picture

What Im doing is ordering 5 juveniles from several different species in the hope that I can grow them out, remove the females and have some sense of peace with an all male tank. Im placing my order with Gage Monday and that's why Im asking a million questions. Truly appreciate all the help.

In Vieja of the same age, males are larger (as ChrisP75 mentioned) and more 'bulked up', with a steeper forehead profile. Coloration is pretty much identical between the sexes. Here are five different pairs and you can see the differences and similarities.

Thank you Notho for explaining more on my info. I am constantly trying to learn more about my fish and was hoping I was on the right path with my info.
