Ive just purchased 3 2-3 inch regani's im housing them in a 100 gal tank, has anyone got any info on these guys? or what they look like when their bigger? . Any info would be appreciated.

U can see a pic of a regani at cichlid forum .com and at tangled up in cichlids.com they are great looking cichlids imo:thumbsup: i want to get a couple myself.:grinno:

Not very aggressive, get 12-14 inches, coracious eaters, fast growers. 3 is too many for a 100g, wait for a pair to form and rehome the odd man out.

I agree with everything except for the fast growers part. None of the Vieja/Paratheraps group are particularly fast growers ime. At least not in comparison to say jags or oscars or even red devils. IMO if you get 1/2" per month out of them even as juveniles then you're doing pretty good. :)

they are a great looking cichlid even when young but they get even more impressive the larger they get. If you can somehow get a breeding pair out of the 3 you have (I'd get a couple more if possible) then they should be very happy in the 100 gallon. :)

Thanks for the info bud, what about feeding? im currently feeding them frozen brine shrimp and prawns once a week

Sounds okay, but try to get some veggies in there as well... A varied diet is key. Buy some hikari cichlid pellets... I use Bio-gold + for my CA's, but and of the hikari cichlid pellets will work. Use the pellets as a staple and a few times a week give them the frozen shrimp and prawns, and mix in some brocolli flouretts as well.

And I guess I got a super vieja... My uncle had a fenestratum in a 180 which grew an inch a month untill about 10", then slowed down. I heard reganis were the same

IMO, they are very skittish. Both regani and argentae are slow grower when they compare to other vieja's. Regani's are very aggressive toward their own species. So, you need plenty hiding space for a group to thrive in the same tank. GL with them.

Have to agree with some of the above regarding growth rate. I have found both argentea and regani to be quite slow growers. I've got 5 regani growing on at the moment, i've had them from 1.5" fry, the largest is 5" smallest 3". I've had them since May. However what i will say, is that you'll eventually be rewarded with one of the most beautiful of Vieja, so it'll be worth the work in raising them.;)
