Not sure. When I got them they looked like juvie regani to me. Then another member said argentea on another post. So I put up more pics for more feedback
I just got 5 of each, 2 inches, so here's some really bad cell phone pics to compare. Here is a picture of a Argentea. He's got 3 vertical stripes, which I assume will go away to some extent as he grows. Top right of the pic, you can see part of a small Regani--no vertical stripes, but same big spot on the tail.
Here's a pic of a Regani (on the bottom) and Argentea fry side by side--only the Regani is in focus, though-sorry.
I think this is very hard to distinguish which is which in such young fish. If I didn't have both types at such a young age in the same tank right now, I couldn't do it.
I think the color in the OP's photos is not right for Argentea. I don't see white and black, I see the beginnings of that wierd blue/gray/tan irridescense that Regani have. Could be the camera, could be the fish. I think we need to revisit this in 2 months. I have this same problem with some Zonatus and Fenestratus growouts in a 75 right now.
Here is another young Argent.... This one may even been younger but has the same markings. You can see the black headband, the tail spot and what most Argent's have is the black spot almost in the middle of their body right below their dorsal. Young Argent's have that red coloring when small but most, if not all lose it, mine doesn't have the red markings either.
