Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew much about keeping vieja synspila? I think they are beautiful fish, but don't know much about them. I am thinking of starting a new tank with festae, jag, and JD, but want a fourth larger american...

Thanks,

Mif

Synspilum and JD cannot hang with Festae or managuense first off. Second, theres a strong possibility that the Festae and Managuense wont tolerate each other unless they have quite a large tank. Considering the tank requirements for such aggressive fish I would recommend getting a Pair of Festae OR a pair of Managuense........ for less aggression and more fish try a pair of Syn's with a pair of Jack's.

Hey guys,

I am going to get my brother to help build a custom tank - either 7x3x2 or 8x3x2.

I am also interested in using jewels, firemouths or cutteri as dithers, something to help break up any aggression with the larger fish.

Please help

So far my jag and synspilum have been fine together. But the jag is small and the syn is pretty big. Also, are you planning on pairs, an all male tank, or a mix?

I am only planning on keeping a single fish of each species, as I have no intention to breed. I was hoping to get all the fish as juvies, to try and avoid as much aggression as possible. This makes it hard to sex them at such a small size. That being said, if I did have a preference, I would try to keep all males, for their size and colour as display fish.

Mine get on alright, few tussels, but nothing serious. The synspilum have even spawned a few times in this tank.

it may work or may not as with all cichlids it is 50/50. My synsplilum doesnt bother any of the other fish unless they bother it,i would be care with jags, and festaes ad mention earlier,it's all trial and error,it may work it may not. good luck
