Hi guys, I want to buy a synspilum soon and I was wondering if I should look around for the brightest and best one, or do they all look beautiful in the end?

anybody here buy one that was dull that became stunning?

Im just curious.

I have a bunch of young ones. When they are young, they are kind of dull. As they grow up, they become beautiful contingent on: water changes, food (i provide lots of vegetation and different kinds of pellets), and obviously making sure they are around fish that don't make them nervous.

So when I see all these dull ones in the LFS theres a good chance the one I choose will become beautiful?

genes also play a part, also in the store they could be stressed out from a number of things:lights, water condition, tank mates, poor diet.syns seem to have a wide variety of color and patterns, young fish 3 inches and under seem to not have much color.your tank conditions will affect your fish, diet, tankmates, etc. what will be in with yours? they are not very high on the aggression scale, but my male killed the female

As babies they are pretty dull----oxymoron. But the colors start comming in after six months and never stop comming. They will keep you interested as long as you have them. Probably the most colorful Cichlid out there. If anyone has a different opinion please share. What Cichlid can out shine an adult Synspilus? Perhaps Cyatherfarynx Furcifer but only in the morning with the help of natural sunlight.

i have 2 babies that are around 3". the are already starting to display a little bit of reddish color, but quite a bit of arodescent color (speckles). i think they will be lookers when they mature.

good luck with your new Synups! :)
