I was caught by extreme surprise today to find out that my Vieja Synspilum and Vieja Maculicauda spawned underneath one of the giant slate structures in the back of my tank.
Does anyone have a clue what this combination turns out to be?
Unknown to me, they had completely dug out all of the substrate from under the giant slate to the bare bottom of the tank.
The reason it surprised me, is because I thought both of them were MALES. This took place in my male show tank.
The synspilum turns out to be a female, even though she shows far greater brilliance than my other syns and has been 3 times as aggressive since she was half an inch long in comparison to the others.
Both fish are beautiful and around 10" or so each.
I am trying to get pictures, but the wise couple pulled this off UNDER the slate structure in the far back of the tank. There is a tiny opening in the front that one of my texas' dug out, so that was how I found out there were even eggs there. Just a small piece of light breaks through enough to see them glowing in the back.
If I can get the digital zoom to get a clear shot, that might be my only way of getting a photo. I will work on it later.
Meanwhile, please let me know what this combo creates, if anyone knows.
