I can't pin down an ID on this guy, but I'm sure some of you can. Help me out please:)

My guess was V. Synspila due to the high amount of orange/red coloration. But I haven't seen a Synspila with that much black.

While i can't say for sure which species it is I can say that it is a beauty! What size tank is he in and are there any tankmates?

bifasciatus, or synspila x bifa.

Thanks guys. I'm starting to wonder if it's not a mix as well (which is perfectly fine by me-it's a beautiful fish).

It came from a 120 with a fenestratus, peacock bass, pleco, and a couple of short lived viejas. It now lives with the same peacock bass, a loiselli, jag, a couple of small jack dempsys, and a synspylum in a 110. A few of those fish will be leaving in a couple of weeks.

I can't find an example of a synspila that has that much black, and I can't find an example of any other Vieja that has that much orange. I think it's a mix too. And a cool one.

Can someone start a Vieja I.D. thread. I'm having a similar problem with one of my Vieja/Paratheraps specimens.
