Here is a couple pictures of my Zonatums. There color has changed. I first thought that another fish was picking off the scales. The fish has no body wounds and eats very well. Has anyone seen or can explain this change in color. I have 4 total. One has turned completely pink. The other as you can see is losing his color. The other 2 a perfectly fine and seem to have paired up some, at least they are always together.

I just received a response from another forum member that these are not Zonatum. Mate said that they are Fenestratum. All info appreciated.

I have a fenestratum is about the same size, it had the same deal with the scales, looks like they are picked off but it is really the color, the light spots change by the hour on mine depends on the mood.

So it appears after much more knowledgeable people have looked at the thread that the fish are in fact Fenestratum. These were purchased from the fish store down in Glen Burnie, Maryland area called House of Tropicals

The body and color really looks fenestratus but the red on the ends of the tail and fins look zonatus but all the pink on then really gives them away that they are not zonatus.Viejas are so hard to tell apart when they are young. I have one that I just purchased at 6" and I still have no idea what it is.

These are fish I have not studied much but my interest in them has really soared. Redfish I can not even begin to say what your fish is. Also it seem that unless you are getting them from very knowledgeable people it seem like you almost have to wait until they have put on some size to know.

Yeah I knew it was not what the LFS had it listed as, they listed it as a nicaraguan, lol. But I really liked the fish so I got it, figured it was some type of vieja. I have a fenestratus and zonatus that I got from Jeff Rapps in the same tank.
