Hi guys I've been reading a lot about different types of cichlids and the viejas are the winner =) Now i don't know a lot about them so i thought u guys could help me out.

How many can i put in my 120g? Also which species are colorful? I will have ample filtration consisting of a fluval fx5 and an emp 400

Any help would be great

In a 120 I'd say 3, maybe some other people are going to say 2.

Synspilums are colorful and quite peaceful.

I have a Blackbelt myself, he is an awesome fish, a lot of personality, aggressive and grew very fast (2 inch to 11 inch in little over a year).

If I had more space I'd get a Zonatum, saw a 12 inch Zonatum last week and they just look very nice.

Are you getting a pair? Because if you do, then you can only get one pair, since the pair will chase/kill the third Vieja I believe.

synspilum is the most colorful. i have them and are some of my favorite. What are the demisions of your 120(they get huge so you need atleast a six foot tank.

If i need at least a 6ft then i might be out of luck =(. My tank is a 5ft, 60x18x27. 18 being the width. Are there smaller growing viejas or do they all grow big? Three would look nice in my tank. Three big fish swmming slowly around the tank just chilling:D

If you can find them get vieja heterospila. They are hard to find and quite exspensive but they don't get over like 10" and they have a fairly even temperament. Jeff Rapps has them sometimes.

and my biast opinion , due to past expierience, is that you better watch out for vieja's aggressive behaviour.
As i stated in another thread just now, the vieja was the meanest fish i ever owned and the only fish i ever had to rehome due to never ceasing aggression issues.
Hope you have more luck then i did.

I just read that post, but the Synspilum I've owned was very calm.

But I do have a Blackbelt/Maculicauda that is very aggressive, he is attacking my Midas the whole time.
