i read some mags saying its difficult to sex oscars but i'm sure you can. one way is to buy a few till they pair up.
I like veil-tailed Oscars. They are different and I like that. Only thing is that since they have long tails they don't do good with other oscars because they always always get their fins torn up. I want an albino veil-tailed.
Veil tails are neat. Need 75 minimum, i would NEVER put one in a 55.
As mentioned, they are vulnerable compared to other oscars because of their long fins, making them great targets.
Also, oscars are extremely hard to sex. Venting is not always right, the only surefire way is have a pair and see which one lays the eggs (obviously that's the female), and then the other one (probably fertilizing the eggs...) is the male. lol

it is very hard to sex oscars almost impossible, and me i dont really like the veil tail ones, i like the oval apperance of a mature oscar but hey everyone has thier own preferance good luck with whatever youchoose
I like oscars ive never seen the veil tail in person myself they look o.k but i would like to see one in person.
I personally do not like the veil tailed type of oscar, i like tiger oscars or wild caught <1>reds are nice<2> and lastly its albino<3> but thats my oppinion
