me and my buddy have done our research and decided to get a Veiled Chameleon...

tomorrow where going to build a cage for it and need some advise on what size and style would be best. it sgoing to be made of wire mesh and wood. we where thinking a rectangle that is 30" wide and 36" tall... i know they grow to 20" so would we need a bigger cage? just not sure how active these guys are.

mine was prety active,i had trouble with him due to diet.I didnt know enough about calcium and the balance of how much and uvb and such. They realy realy love to climb up high so tall cage is very good idea. They love the sunlight but can over heat fast if its intence for too long like the summer heat in my town.Study up on the diet as far as how much suplementing and how often. They are very sensitive to mbd when young.Just do your homework.I think i handled mine to often too but he didnt like it in the first place. They just like to feel like you dont see them but that dosnt mean when you hold out a crix they wont come and snatch it from your hand.If i had time some day i might get a diferent type now that i know my stuff. The veilds are great guys, just learn as much as you can first.good luck.

well, after measuring the doors aroung the house. were making the cage 36" long, 24" wide and 48" tall. otherwise it wouldnt be able to fit in the front door :D

The extra height will be better for a veiled.

Veiled Chameleons need a tall cage that allows air (so no glass). The lizard will need not only the ability to get the appropriate uva and uvb but also the ability to get out and into the shade when it needs it. As stated above they are needy as far as care requirements. And don't over do the calcium.

And no hard shell treats like mealworms.

got the mesh todya (aluminum) and where finishing the frame tonight (its a weekend project :) ) should be done by next weekend and ill have pics.

now to find a vieled chameleon :D
