First sorry if its in the wrong spotHey guys so far in my 55g is my JD and 3 smaller african cichlids. I am planing on getting 2 more african cichlids even though Centeral american and africans shouldnt really mix they had some in the tank he was in so he isnt trying to eat them (yet :eek3:). I was thinking of maby a violet goby in the mix. Would theybe alright in there? They are about 6" and +.

thx

Violet gobies are not a freshwater fish, even though they are often sold as such by pet stores. They also grow too large for a 55 gallon, and need a tank that is at least 18" wide. Check out the brackish section for several threads on care of this species.

For a fish that looks like a violet goby, and has oodles of personality, try a Bichir!!!!

x100000 :D

My first "/V\onster" fish was a violet goby and as cool looking as he was it was one of the most boring fish I've ever kept. Really never saw him at all unless there was food in the tank, and even then it was hit or miss. Traded him in at the LFS for a senegal bichir and never looked back. They have so much more personality and are so much more active.

dragon gobys in the wild can live in totally fresh brackish or marine waters like a lot of gobys and sleeper gobys can. i own marbled sleeper gobys who can live totally in fresh or brackish in the wild. spotted sleeper gobys who live in fresh or brackish in the wild. a breeding pair of purple spot gudgeons who are found in freshwater only in the wild. and bumblee bee gobys who live in fresh or brackish water in the wild. all my gobys have alway been kept in fresh water for years and ive been keeping gobys for almost 20 years. i had i dragon goby but he was just recently killed by my african tiger fish
