So here is the story.. about two weeks ago I went to my LFS and purchased 6 Corydoras' Julii . Within the first night I awoke to one of them floating at the bottom of the tank deceased. I chalked it up to stress and perhaps I could have spent a bit more time acclimating the fish. I noticed that the Cory had a big red mark under its skin - Like a vein exploded or something you could see the internal hemorrhaging.
This continued on for the next 3 nights each one of them exhibiting the same type of behaviour. I could tell which one was next because it would separate it's self from the group and become lathargic and hid that entire day and the next morning I would have found it deceased. I went back to my LFS to explain to them what had been happening and had brought tank water for them to test to see that my tank parameters were at acceptable levels however , they did not even need to test it because they had been going through the exact same issue with them at the store. I was given my credit and decided to purchase some wild Cardinal tetras this time.
I was told that they probably injured each other during shipping with their barbs and bacterial infection was most likely the cause to their demise. so with that in mind , I decided to adopt two peppered corys' from someone in my city. I found one of the peppered corys dead yesterday. At this point I have made sure that I will halt stocking any more more fish until I can figure this out.
My tank has Cardinal tetras , Bleeding Heart Tetras, Rummynose Tetras, BN Pleco, x ray tetra, Zebra Danios. and the only one that this illness appears to be affecting is my Corydoras. Clearly there is now a case of something in my aquarium regardless of if the other fish are showing it or not the question now is how should I go about treating this situation.
My goal is to stock the tank with Stendker discus and there is no way I will put one of those prized fish into a situation like that .
