[sorry for the crappy cell phone pics]

caught this rock bass in the south west section the new river in virginia last august. he was 5" the and around 8" now. he is the only inhabitant of a 40gal as he recently killed his only tankmate, my 5 year old 6" convict.

i am thinking about moving him to a 75 gal and possibly putting one or a couple sunnies in with him. bluegill, greens and warmouth are in abundance within a 30 mile radius of my house.

has anyone one here spawned redeyes before or crossbred native sunfish? what would be an ideal setup for success? can anyone sex my redeye?
my goal is to get my rock bass to spawn with another sunfish, although i don't know it's sex.
thanks!

THATS A HUGE ROCKBASS!!!!!:headbang2

ya...i caught it on a bare orand 1/16oz jig head...i also caught 4x 12" on the same jig and at the same spot...

sounds like no one has actually answered your question... how about posing it again! as for tank mates.... they are like cichlids... google their breed and see if they are even compatible at all with others... donot forget they are used to living in a lake!! there may not be any that can be compatible in that living space!

beautifull fish! I think it may be a Roanoke bass which is on the decline......you should only put in other Roanoke bass females (if its a male) from your area and try to spawn them. If you want color put in some Golden shiners or logperch that are around the same size.......I have been told that most Rock bass species are like the Green Sunfish I used to have (they killed all their tank mates I put in their that were cichlids or other types of Sunfish and I have a 39gallon tank). A idea would be to get a uses 100-150gallon tank and put some more sand (to spawn in) and some dried out driftwood then you could even get a snail or spotted Bullhead to put in or other choices.
