OK I've got 2 632's just chilling up North in my parents' basement, I'll probably bring them down next winter. Anybody have an idea of something cool to put in them? I'm thinking one large constrictor and a lizard or group or lizards in the other.

I've kept retics before and they're great, but IMO I don't have nearly enough cage to house one. They're pretty active snakes. Anyone kept any of the "dwarf" retic morphs, or is there any morph that doesn't get quite as enormous as a normal retic, like maybe a tiger? I really like the personality of the retics, so if there's another boid species that's similar I'd be up for it.

Re: lizards, I'm honestly not sure what I could put in there. The 632 is a pretty low cage (I think it's 18" high) so we're talking ground dwelling and not a dedicated burrower. I like larger lizards...maybe blue tongue skinks? Can they be kept in groups? Anyway, just looking for suggestions.

When it come to enclosures, can you just give the footprint and height?'

From Google, is 72"x36"x18".

It is more than enough for a BTS. Keep only one of them, they have a habit of nipping each others. Keep anything you want that is under 2-3 ft as a lizard or snake under 72", although some would say 108" would be acceptable... no big deal.

what about some of the aussie pythons. different to retics sure, but nice snakes. There are some nippier ones too.

Didn't realize I'd forgot to put it in (the measurements).

Didn't realize the BTS tended toward nipping, I was thinking I could do a pair. I'd love to try ackies as I've never had them, but I kind of feel like the 18" depth won't give them the burrowing room they'd like. I see in your sig, you've given yours a lot of room to move around...I love seeing lizards with lots of room, rather than the usual "I have X sized tank, how big of a lizard can I keep?"

I was actually thinking of carpets (not strictly aussie), but I think they'd want more height, the Vision cages are really low.

I have a female jcp.............and yes they are SEMI-arboreal...........they like to climb, but dont spend the majority of their time up high...................mine basks in the branches but goes to ground to chill out:)

Regarding the BTS, it is not surprising. Only a few lizards -- let alone snakes would tolerate each others. Even a leo gecko would try to hurt its mating pair from time to time.

You don't need to give the Ackies a burrowing depth of the entire enclosure if you don't want to. You can do a burrow bin/tub that a lot of people do which is usually between 10" to 24" deep.

Too bad you can't rip the top off of that Vision to give them the climbing space. I feel keeping them in the "standard" 3'x2'x2' enclosures is just cruel. I find they are like corn snakes in regard to size of the enclosure, as I have yet to see a Bearded Dragon or Leo Gecko use all of the vertical space, they will use the extra space provided. So I agree with you though -- the 18" height won't give them the space they like. That is just my opinion.

Who in their right mind would keep a monitor in aquarium tank anyway? Screen lids for them are not good, most of them are not humid enough.

Best way to approach this issue? Brainstorm with kind of creatures you want, then eliminate the possibilites by putting a size restriction on them.

Yea, you might want to get away with it, but your right, they are quite short cages.

you can do lizards just remember to offer them a nest/ digging box. Ackies are a great beginner monitor.

In terms of snakes if youre into nippy snakes that dont get rather large like a retic ......try a white lipped python. If you want to get something rater nice....id go with a pair of Womas.
