Im going to Bangkok, Thailand this june fo a 1 week Vacation. I would like to buy fishes there so I don't want to miss this opportunity. They said that Chatuchak Weekend Market has a wide variety of pet fishes. So this is my question.

1. What fishes do they sell there? I want to buy exotic fishes like dwarf puffers, red tailed red eye puffers, black ghost knives, rainbow snakeheads and marbled goby? Do you think they have those on stores?

2. Anyboby here in the forums who had been to Thailand or are living in Thailand and bought fishes in Chatuchak Weekend Market?

Hope someone would reply to this...

This is an SOS, It's my first time to go abroad and I don't want to screw it up. Anyone who could assist me?

i'm not entirely sure, but most asian live fish markets have marbled gobs labled as a soon hock.

except for the puffers all the fich you mentioned are available in Manila..its a hassle to get a permit and pay taxes to bring in fish that are already available to you..plus if you dont get the necessary permits that would be equal to smuggling and your fish would be confiscated or you have to pay the fines and quarantine the fish which would be a greater hassle..there is always the L A G A Y system in place but all these situations will add to the cost of the fish not to mention the agrraviation..

these are just my 2 cents sir, if fish are available to you buy them, no need to go elsewhere to buy the same fish..

I looked round and i saw salt water puffers, and rainbow snakehead, If it can be sold it'll be at JJ. In addition the fish section is always open, everyday. There is a fish section next to the new JJ mall and the normal fish section inside chatuchak.
I would bet you'll find all you want.

Its a very big market but fish will depend on what is seasonally available. When I say BIG MARKET I am talking about animals as exotic as baby tigers, sloths and other prohibited species. You need to flash some money to be taken seriously and see the good stuff. As posted, I am pretty sure the Philipines will have everything you want. The fish you buy will not be fasted for extended travel either. The other thing is bargaining is a big part of Bangkok and you need to be well aware of local prices to get a reasonable deal. They will spot a visitor a mile away!!

Mind if I'm asking, what's a JJ?

JJ is the local name for chatuchak market, there is the big market which is hot and sticky the a new mall called, funnily enough JJ mall next door. no fish in there though.
