Last Wednesday I went on a trip with the family to the Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin, TX. The two smaller gardens that interested me most were the Hartman Prehistoric Garden and the Isamu Taniguchi Japanese Garden (links in the names). Unfortunately I didn't get good pictures of the Japanese garden but it was a series of concreted channels with plants growing in and around them. The dino garden was the one I really liked. What is nice is that these are tropical looking plants that grow well in our soil and climate.

I know that the big evergreen is called Japanese yew but only because of how toxic it is. I don't know the names of the others but I'm sure for a DIY garden, just take the pictures to any large garden center.
