Check for pores

Hey sorry for the 3 word post. Dinner was served and I was starving.

You can tell the difference between pre-filter media and bio-filter media by both sight and the texture.

Visually speaking, if there are many imperfections like crack and pores all over the surface, you can very well be sure that is a bio-media.

By feeling, if it is rough, its a bio-media. Pre-filter media tend to have this smooth chalk-like texture on the surface. So get it a rub.

Anyways I doubt pre-filter medias are of really any use at all. When I visit friends, and check out their aquarium as well as the filter as im a filter-junkie. Those who uses pre-filters, I asked them a question which they can never answer.

"Don't gunk get trap onto your ceramic medias? So why not replace the pre-filter with bio-media since bio-media also have this "pre-filter" capability?"
