So i read a case on another forum about a guy who's Ray has become bloated and has an unusual appearance to it's body. The entire disc looks to be dome shaped. Whilst it has not been proven on the thread that this has been caused by a high salt content, it has certainly been suggested that people who feed raw frozen sea foods to rays are essentially feeding them too much salt.
I have fed raw prawn and mussel once per day since having my rays which is 3 or 4 years now. I also feed pellets once per day, and i am sure most of us do the same.
Firstly, do any of you guys do anything or feed anything differently?
Secondly, do any of you guys add any supplimental vitamins to your rays diets, and if so, what do you use please?

Interesting topic.

I myself try to not feed Shrimp or saltwater fish to my rays where possible. i feed mostly pellets for this reason. I also will feed tilapia, but try to stay away from shrimp.

There just might be something to the connection of bloating and the high content of salt in seafoods.A member recently posted a thread about his tig catfish that he regularly fed prawn to and how it become bloated and eventually died.

I soak tilapia in vitachem about once a week. My rays are not yet on pellets, so for me it is a way to get a little more nutrition in their system. Haven't noticed any ill effects and they don't seem to mind either way.

Jim,

I am feeding my rays pellets, massivoire and cichlid bio-gold, as a staple, and then I will feed them a variety of frozen foods, such as shrimp, tilapia, and any other cheap fish I can buy. I also try to feed my fish as much live earthworms as I can get. In the summer this is easy as I just go out back and can easily dig up a couple dozen in a matter of minutes, in the winter it is a different story.

Start a worm culture to get you through the winter....I guess I lucked out in that my two motoros almost took to pellets about a week after I got them.
