Searching through forums i have seen mixed response about volcanic rocks, i have found a few and want to know if this can be used in the tank, after i have kept them in a bucket for a few days to monitor the Ph change.

I used them for a good 10+ years in my african cichlid tank. a 55G filled to the top with big chunks of lava rock so the entire tank was a network of tunnels. no problems.
they do break down over time. over the course of several years I ended up with a fine red dust on the bottom and pieces would break off easily.
they are sharp though, especially to start with, so if your fish do a lot of scraping, they could start removing scales.

I have a few pieces of lava rock that I bought from a pet store years ago..I've always wondered if they are real or if that is just a trade name.
