Vortex Diatom Filters

Hi
I used to use both the small and the large Vortex Diatom Filters to polish my tanks. I had a constant problem with the EL leaking at the U Joints and the gaskets. Vortex sent out new parts but they leaked too. I want to start up again with a diatom filter to polish my tanks, but am hesitant to go back to Vortex if they are still leaking as badly as the did before. Has anyone bought one of these recently? Has there been any problems? I didn't like the Tetra Brand Diatom Filter it didn't do as good of a job in my opinion as the Vortex did. Is there another brand of filter that works really well???

I'm current running a JBJ 45 with two micron pads in there and it's not cutting it. The tank is 55 gallons so the filter is oversized for the tank the current bio load. I also have the UV running but the water is still cloudy. You can see fine particles floating in the water. I've also tried an algecide in there thinking it was a bloom of algae but it's not helped. The tank isnt' overstocked either so my we're not sure what's causing it.
