Here are a couple pictures of the w/d i built this weekend. This is my first w/d i have ever tried. The filter is in the basement and the tank is on the first floor. It is about 1000 to 1100 gph. the pump is restricted alittle bit because it was to much. There is about 40 gallons of bio-balls and a ton of ceramic bio (about 15 lbs or so). Also i have a turbo twist UV hooked up to the power head. The tank is a 6'x2'x30". Filter is way to big but thats what i like-- over-kill. There will be a m/f leo pair in there in a little bit. 1st pic is the homemade overflow i made by the DIY section of MFK:headbang2 THankyou it works awesome

Nice! it will be much better than the canisters! What makes you think the pump was overwill? I personally like 10X turnover but at least 8X to feel ok about it. Which in your case would be like 1700-2200gph

but either way great improvement in water quality should be noticed and the UV will bve good for the rays!!

When i had it running wide open but the fish where getting pushed all over the place. Maybe i can make the holes bigger on the return so it dosent cause so much current. Ill try that tomarrow. I want more turnover toooo.

If u want it wide open with less current to push the fish add another outlet

you can install a ball valve after the pump and just choke down the flow. It won't hurt the pump, it'll actually help it:) There is no need for 10x flow on a wet/dry.
