Walked away from a recent today

Was at a lfs today and almost got a 4"rtc for $35. Concern was that I am unsure of how long I could home him. I have a 75g tank I would start him in, and then move him to a 120g 6ft tank. How long do you think that would work out before I would have to get a bigger tank or rehome him? Any and all comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Don't do it. He would outgrow your 125 in a year. Rehoming him would be a nightmare! My local Aquarium won't even take rtc

Unless it looks stubby, like an SB I wouldn't do it. Even then SBs are prone to health issues more so then normal fish

Yeah, I left him there. I intend to go way bigger in the future, but I didn't want to risk the time frame of grow out vs. Expansion. If my wife sees this I am so gonna get the "I told you so"

Oh no, not the much dreaded "I told you so!" :) Yeah, IMHO, you will have ~6 months in 125 before you have to up the size as he will be around a foot by then, rather give than take.

BTW short body RTC also costs 4 digits or so :)
 
Bucket listed... For when I get a bigger tank. Which should be within the next year and a half... Not quite quick enough. Thanks all

my RTC I have less than 5 months it has gone from 6" to 24" in that time, I have to move him out of my 240 8footer within a month or he will be to big to turn around in it the way he's growing.
 
4" a month over 5 months is unheard of. Must have real good genes.
