Same as Channa they can take over and wipe out the fish in lakes and rivers they get into, they are tough as old boots can cross land and breed like wild fire. They will then mussel out / eat the indigenous fish species or in the case of Channa frogs birds etc etc.

This is exactly right, they have been released here in Florida and have established them selves. The problem is even if they are only established in one body of water, they can walk to other near by ponds, lakes, streams, and cannals. During the rainy season here, you can see them walking around in the low lying areas that have gathered water, moving to another pond.
