My walking catfish is always chasing my gar for no reason. Not really a sign of 'playing' as my gar would always scurry away in fright. Now my Gar is always aware of my catfish, TOO aware. he barely dares to eat as he is scared of my walking catfish.

What my catfish does is when he comes up for air and my gar is near, he would start 'nibbling' on my gar's tail although he has no teeth and my gar would get scared. they're about the same size too. he doesn't seem to bother the other larger plecos except my gar. :nilly:

Could be slime coat sucking? Also, gars and plecos are not advisable... You might want to be careful, he could easily break his back if he gets spooked bad one night.

Best of luck

Clarius Cats are almost blind with those tiny eyes. They mainly depend on smell for food. If it smells like food, it'll take a nibble. If the food is something too big and alive, it would swim away. Since they are in a tank, it just repeats. Since Plecos are armored, they probably don't taste too good and is left alone. Clarius Cats are aggressive feeders and will nip at things that they think may be food.

^^That's what I've seen before. From what I've seen, Clarius cats like to go after what gives chase (like a shoal of clown loaches). I've also seen people successfully keep gars and plecos together. I think it depends on the type of pleco and the variety of the diet. For years, I have successfully kept a wide variety of plecos with discus. It can be done.

aggreed, i feed my plecos a whole zuchinni a week and they never show any interrest in the gar at all.
but i understand that there's allways the risk.
I wouldn't take the risk of letting your gar get spooked and hurt himself.
that'd be a shame.
What's your plan for the future if the issues continue?

Thx for the reply and advices guys. Well if this does continue i plan to put my gar in the pond with the other gigantic koi fish. do u think they'll be ok with a pong of gigantic koi fish? i have never heard of a gar breaking his back...how wouldi recognise i if he did? is it a permanent injury?

I had an mbuna that broke it's back once and yes it's permanent. The guy couldn't use his tail an his back half eventually died off while his front continued to live. It looked totally weird. Anyway, I put him out of his misery because it was just too sad.
