Looking for someone that has built a wall around there tank. I am looking to build or frame in an aquarium thats against a wall to make it look like it is in the wall. Anyone out there can show me some pic and write up or ideas. I have some question about the process
thanks

Thanks and I will look now. By the way Go Tiger's, you ready for the season? I too am a LSU fan though I never attended, have to stay with the home team, plus these damn Florida gator fans gets on my nerves. lol

Hi, and let me say nice DIY build, only if I had the skills.
My first question is considering I will be using a steal stand to put the tank on and framing around it, how do you get the tank to sit close enough to the frame without looking like its an inch or two from the wall? If that does not make sense, what I am trying to ask is how much distance does the actual aquarium sit back from the frame work? or is it flush with the wall. If you run you hands across the wall towards the tank, is it one smooth surface straight across, or does the tank sit back in the enclosure a few inches? Becasue I am wantig to build a false wall to cover the plumbing just like you have an not actually cutting a wall away where you can sit the tank flush with the wall, how do you combat this when building a false wall or it can't be done, it has to sit back a inch or two? I hope that makes sense. In you photos i noticed you have blue tape aroound the border between the tank and the framing how deep is that?

I could have helped if you asked 30 years ago. my dad's 100G was wall built. his tank was flush with the opening (except for the depth of the cedar shingles) because the wall was part of the stand. he actually built the wall around the tank.

Yes, that what I was talking about, so for the most part your dads tank was flush with the wall. Because I already have a stand that's steal, I am not sure how to frame around the tanks and stand to get that flush look. Or maybe I could have the tank sit about a 1/2inch off the stand in the front so the framing could go under the tank, does that sound safe?

If you havestids butting against the left and right legs of the stand the sheetrock should be fine not being attached to a stud under the stand. Another option is that you can run 2 horizontal boards through the stand and attach them to the studs outside of the stand. Then use them for attaching the studs under the tank.
