I have been watching one of these at work lately, and he looks and acts pretty awesome. I have never kept pike cichlids before, and I have no idea what to expect. I know this one killed all his conspecific tank mates, but are they generally peaceful yet highly predatory fish, like peacock bass or are they aggressive and lurkers like wolf fish?

Every specimen I ever owned was territorial and aggressive as well as an absolute pig when it came to eating.
They are one of the dwarf pikes ... mine were mellow towards dwarf acaras but were dominated by dwarf jewels. They will kill anything where the head can fit in their mouths, even if they can't swallow the whole thing. Other than that, they were fine.
Now my plan would be keeping them with similar sized peaceful fishes such as gobies, large predatory characins and catfish. All of the fish are totally mellow and show absolutely no aggression. Do you guys think it could work out fine?
I guess it depends on how large the characins and cats and such are. Remember these are dwarf pikes ... only about 4" on average not much thicker than a fancy pen. They can get sucked down by anything elongate enough.
