Red wood city
I am new to planted tanks(Large aggro cichlids have no tolerance for plants) but i picked up some bulbs from walmart for my fry growout tank. I belive they are some sort of lilly bulbs. I have heard that they grow really fast. But i just wanted to know if anyone has used these before and could share some experiences or pics of the plants. As my bulbs have not sprouted yet(2nd day ive had them). I appreciate any info, thanks.

I believe most of these are water onion and different stains of aponogeton (I could be mistake, I have never seen the ones at walmart). If this is the case, then yes, they grow very fast and you don't even have to plant in the substrate. if you have any driftwood or rocks get some fishing line and loosely secure them to that, otherwise, just drop them in (wouldn't hurt to use those weights sold at petco and stuff... like $2). I have yet to use them but have eyed them curiously several times and might pick some up just to see what happens.

I have used these and have decent results with them. They say that every bulb will grow or they will replace it for free, I have a 70% success rate with the bulbs and have not returned the ones that have not grown at this time so I can not comment on thier replacement policy as of yet. The reason is you have to wait min of one month before you are allowed to return the bulbs that have not grown and I am waiting for that time lapse to come around. So far they are all doing great and I have no issues with them, even had a few seeds grow from parent plants and had new plants grow from those.
So all in all I am happy with them, even with the limited varity of 3 different plants, the red lilly are quite nice and really fill out a tank compared to the others.

These are not water onions, but apogenon, and some sort of dwarf red lily or other. They usually do well, and do grow fast, but I find that cichlids still pull them up and ... you know how it goes. But they are fun plants to grow. Leave 1/2 the bulb (the top) exposed.

Yes! After a mere 4 or so days in the tank all the bulbs are just beggining to produce what appear to be roots. I am pretty excited to see these plants continue growing and filling in.

I bought a couple of packs of those for my africans. Out of two packs, I got three plants that actually grew. Those three, however, did grow very fast and are pretty big. The "flower" part grows all the way to the top of the water.

I guess I like them ok (the Wal Mart plants). My africans don't eat them or uproot them (in gravel). I like anubias much more though. I've had great success with anubias in my african tank. They don't eat them or uproot them (again, in gravel).

Well for those who have bought any bulb plants from Wal-Mart in the package, I have good news for you if they do not grow.
I sent away two complete packages worth of bulbs that did not grow and they replaced them no questions asked. I was going to include a note explaining that I purchased more than two packs worth, but I wanted to see if they would exchange them with out any explination at all, and they did. So for those who have a few of these that did not grow, just wait out the 30 day period and mail em in with a copy of the reciept and the company will take care of you.
