Everyone is well aware of the cruelty Walmart puts upon their fish. Walmart won't take anyone's advice on the puffers or fish care in general. They have the puffers 20 in little 10g tanks and tell buyers that they can live in FW their whole lives & just feed them flakes. The poor things are skin and bones, turning black and have Ich. They are chewed on by their tank mates & many are dead & dying.

Please check out this petition against them selling fish and sign it. I just feel that they should NOT be able to carry any fish at all--they are all sick looking and they have absolutely no clue on how to care for them. http://www.**************.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_cry.gif

i like walmart, just not their fish and the way they keep them, and not just the puffers i have seen, that goes for any fish they have. always look sick, underfed and overstocked. got my signature!

I boycotted Walmart for 10 years because of their treatment of their fish. I have started to shop at the ones not carrying them anymore.

someone should start a chain or franchise of fish stores and place them all pretty much next to walmarts with fish to get people to stop buying walmart fish :)

signed and yeah definetly agree, because they're not willing to properly train theri empoyees, they shouldn't be carrying fish.

My LFS is right next to Wally World, and the store has stopped carrying fish since the store opened about 5 years ago or so. Makes me happy :)

edit: Walmart has stopped carrying fish because of the quality LFS that opened next to it.

sweet someone is already thinking ahead of me. i would like to own a pet store someday. i wouldnt be one of "those stores" though

Try working in one for a few years, before ever considering owning one.

i worked in one from when i was 18-20 or 21ish before i had to get a job with benefits. i loved it and learned a lot from the owners and other workers. did the cleaning of the animal cages on saturdays and sundays so i had a key to the store with my own security code and all. i was very involved with them from doing that on weekends even during the week before i had classes once in a while. i would go in to feed twice a day on holidays. i ran the fish room a little after learning the sizes and identification of labels to fish. but when someone had a question on species of fish i would get someone else who knew until i picked up things over a period of time. for my age and all i held a lot of responsibility there, as well as giving the dogs and cats meds if needed every morning and taking an animal to the vet for care or a checkup if needed. picked up and dropped off the deposit to the bank, grocery store runs for romaine lettuce, carrots etc. runs to the store for other supplies(pine shavings, cleaning products etc) unloaded trucks and handled all inventory aspects and checking stuff in except all the ordering of supplies. i genuinely enjoyed it and would love to work in another one for a while to learn the management part of it. it would still be some time before i even consider applying for a loan.
