ohio
I went to a newer walmart that is about 20 minutes from my house and went to check out the fish. well many people say never to buy fish from walmart because they always have ich. well these fish looked healthy, either that or they had just gotten them.

anyway, so im looking at the different kind of fish they have and i noticed that they had several senegal bichir and i got excited and looked for their tag to see how much they were. first of all, they had them names dinosaur eel. WRONG. and they were selling them for $7 a piece. they usually go for $15 in petstores.

they were also selling green spotted puffers just as "puffers" for $4

and the lady that worked there was like do you realize these fish are aggressive? and my boyfriend was like if you saw her tank you would realize she loves aggressive fish.

the lady also said that she tried to put the bichir with dragon goby because she thought they were in the same family... wow, the people they choose to work around fish. poor fish, atleast i saved some lives yesterday.

it's just a common name, nothing really wrong about it other than it not being an eel, but then again neither are spiny eels actually true eels

Dinosaur eel is plainly a common name and not valid. It is not the first time a chain store mislabeled them and know very little about the hobby.

ah i see. i just thought it was funny that the lady acted like she knew so much about fish, but couldnt even tell me what their actual name is

they dont pick fish people for walmart. they have anyone working in the general department monitor the fish. there is no fish person. one day you get the pharmacy stock boy the next day u get the chick working the counter. its walmart, u can buy fish and get ur prescription done at the same place what did u expect? lol

So because Walmart sell the fish cheaper than other pet stores makes Walmart stupid? Is green spotted puffer one kind of puffer? So what would a smart person like you prefer to pay, Lady? :D

hah no cheap is always good for me! i should have relabeled this thread stupid lady at walmart! but they are screwing themselves over and mislabeling fish wrong. oh well, my gain

lol I tried to rescue 3 GSP that were covered in fungus and some bad fin rot from my local walmart but they ended up dieing on me. Funny part was I didnt see any stickers for them so I played dumb and they were sold to me for $2 and something a piece as algae eaters! The really good part is that this walmart no longer sells fish.

hah even the other day when i went to my local pet store i was telling the manager about the fish they carried in the store. geesh, shouldnt they know atleast a little bit about different species of fish when telling people what to get?
