How is it even legal for them to sell fish? Usually when I go there I take a stroll by their fish department. I never buy anything there because their tanks are always freaking nasty with dead fish. Today when I went in ALMOST EVERY SINGLE FISH WAS DEAD IN EVERY SINLGE TANK!!!! The only live fish were the goldfish and there was one or two still alive in the other tanks. I was pissed! Their tanks are usually bad but this was horrible. I swear at least 20-30 dead fish IN EACH TANK!!! How is this not animal abuse?

I hate walmart too but 20-30 in each tank. I've never seen that many fish in their tanks. A little exageration?

Not at all, they were all sucked to the filters, floating on the top, dead at the bottom....

the one by my house was like that everytime i went in there... and it smelled like a cow pond.. so gross... i dont know how/why people would by fish from conditions like that..

Most all around me are like that. I think it depends on management. The walmart closest to me actually has decent stocking levels, hiding places for all the fish and there aren't any absurd tank mates. That doesn't stop them from selling oscars and pacus however...

Well last year they cut the live fish from 750 of their stores. Probably about half of the Walmarts I go to have bad tanks, the others, great. Depends on who gets assigned to the department. If I do decide to buy a fish it is impossible to find somebody to get them for me.

So why not tell someone in the Wallmart system of your thoughts and concerns. Creating a thread to wine about something everyone here already knows about, changes nothing.

Ever read the little discription cards they have for their fish? The new super walmart near me had one for pacus said they get to be about 10"! I guess they meant 10decimeters ~39".

lol, i just started working at wal mart over night. my first night there i asked my manager why they kept there tanks with out gravel. his response " because it would require us to hire some one to take care of it, because cleaning one gravel tank would take hours." then last week i asked again and got the same response, well after working there for two months now i stepped and and said i would love that job, i would be more than happy yo take care of them every night. he said " no your to good of a stocker, we cant lose you to fish." that really ticked me off.

but walmart does have an "open door" policy where any one, working or customer, can talk to any one in the company, in your local walmart go to the customer servis desk, they should have the district managers phone listed, if not just ask, they have to give it to you, you can then call him and tell him your concerns.

I won't complain, I live by at least 5 Walmarts, the ones that sell fish, are pretty good. I have spoken to the people who care for the fish at the one I go to the most. They seem to care. I have bought a few fish from there, with great success. They are beter than some fish stores I have been to.
