I had a 2.5" blue acara, who has had ongoing health issues since I bought him almost a year ago. You name it this poor thing had it - broken rays in his fins, a crooked jaw, weird, mottled coloration, he just kept getting uglier and sicklier... despite always being in a tank full of healthy fish. I've really been scratching my head as to what to do with him... including putting him out of his misery. Walter, my 8" TSN did the job for me last night, so I had to post some pics of his ridiculously distended gut:

AAAAAWWWWWWWWWWW Ugly in Walter's belly! That is sad. I take it Walter will be sleeping that meal off for a while!

Well you know it saves me the stress of trying to figure out whether ot not I should euthanize ugly.

$10 says walter is up for dinner tonight, despite his disgusting indulgence. I guess I should figure out something to do with my gold nugget pleco, who is in the same tank, and could wind up as another midnight snack. I'm tempted to put the lil pleco in my 200gal, but there's an oscar in there who doesn't like newcomers much.

Just goes to show how voracious tsn and rtc are...tsn in this case. So the Acara hadn't grown in over a year from 2.5"???

Is it me or does it seem Walter from the second picture has a big smile on his face?

:ROFL: Hope he enjoyed his meal.

You know I wonder how long a fish inhaled whole would survive inside the stomach and esophagus of a tsn or rtc???

nice gut on that fellow

walter looks very smug. good for him lol

No, he hadn't. I bought two to begin with, both of them in my 200gal tank. One was really pretty, and the other sort of dull, like a rain cloud. The pretty one began to beat up on the ugly one incessantly, so I moved ugly to a 5gal temporarily. He started doing a bit better, but he continued to get grayer and grayer, and his broken fins never really healed. I moved him to my 50gal grow out as soon as it was set up, but again he continued to get skinnier and uglier. His jaw got bent somehow, and his gills started to curl (I know the water quality was good, so I can't explain the gills.) Then Walter hoovered him and the story ends. :p I just hope he didn't have a parasite that he would pass onto wally.

I was wrong, Walter didn't want dinner last night. The pleco and apple snails were in heaven cleaning up the food that Walter didn't eat.
