whats your experience with them and their diet also whats their growth rate like? i have a 55 with pool filter sand and a few pieces of wood. will pool filter sand scratch them?

Your looking at a min 180 gallon tank for it. The 55 you have now you might get a year to a year an a half, if you buy a 3-4 inch baby. They Grow fast when young but tend to slow a bit when they get to 12-15 inches. Pool sand is good. Must have a tight lid, they like to escape. Provide plenty of caves or PVC pipe for them to hide. Water quality is a must. Very very sensitive to nitrates. As you may know they can get huge.

yeah i done research on them a while back back and only remembered that they grow to 24" or around that, wont really accept pellets and they need smooth substrate. what would be a good diet for one who isnt pellet trained and how to leave them get use to the tank like should leave the lights off for a few days

Never heard of pellet training them. My tire track eats earth worms, shrimp, bloodworms, krill. Sometimes I put pellets inside the shrimp pieces I feed him.

Before I sold mine, I fed it earthworms tilapia and shrimp then one day I just stopped feeding it and after a few days, I offered it a massivore pellet. After about a week it started eating them
