Well, they're called "brackish fish" because they live in "brackish water" so I think the answer is obvious.

 That's true! I would keep them in brackish water. As for the best siphon and filter it depends on the size of your tank, how its stocked, how you feed, etc. Give us some more info and we'll be happy to help.

P.S. Welcome to MFK!

You keep them in brackish, and many species eventually should be transitioned to marine as adults.

Remember, if you are going to do a brackish water tank, you will have to treat it more like a saltwater tank as opposed to a freshwater tank. You will have to check the salinity when you do a water change. Also, like a full saltwater tank, due to evaporation, salt will buid up on the top of your tank, top cover, lights etc. so you will have to wipe off the salt because the salt will make anything made of metal rust.
Otherwise, there's plenty of brackwater fish that are pretty cool. The Doctor

well i have a GSP in a 10 gallon tank...i feed him frozen brine shrimp...feeder shrimp and snails...whatd be best for a syphon...

Siphon for water changes? What are you needing a siphon for?

We need some more details:)

first off you need atleast a 30 gallon for the GSP. And 2ndly being that its a puffer you shouldnt keep much with it as it will likely take some bits out of it. You could try guppies. I kept a GSP with guppies for a long time. He will eat some but then eventually leave the rest alone if your lucky. Then they will breed and you will have tons of them.

You will definitely need to upgrade that tank in order to keep a GSP long term. For a small tank like a 10g, I just use a small siphon and a bucket. I believe the siphon is an Aqua Marina. For my larger tanks I use a 50' Python siphon and a 50' Aqua Marina siphon (1 for my tanks on the main floor and 1 for my tanks in my basement bar). They're great for larger tanks but don't make much sense for smaller tanks due to their size and the amount of water you're removing.
