Ok guys I have a jack dempsey, pink convict, and a Texas cichlid in a 10 gallon growout. The jack dempsey is 2.5 in. The convict 3in. And the Texas 3in. Too. I want a red devil can you give me any advice. I know they are extremely aggro. But how big is the average male can they work in a 29 for a second growout until I get a bigger tank, thanks

How big is the average full adult male? About 12-14 inches. You need a minimum of 125 gallon for one RD. My Midas( close relative) was 15.5 inches when I sold him. About 7 years old.

The 10 gallon seems like they grew out of it already. 29 gallon would be small as well to house them as well long term.

That ten gallon is way too small already.
And if you're considering all four in the 29 gallon then your 29 gallon is already over stocked too.

You need to focus on getting those fish out of the 10 gallon before you start looking for more fish to add.

chances are good that if u get a male of anything Amphilophus, it will kill everything else. I have always kept them alone, but the females tend to do OK in aggressive community as long as the other fish can stand up to her

How do you not have nitrate and ammonia issues with all those fish in the same 10 gallon? I have a couple little Jewels in a 10 g and I have to do 50-60% WC weekly

I kept a red devil with a GT,Texas,JD,and convict in a 125. When he hit 12" he turned mean on all the fish and me. I would not get one with your stock. Plus get at least a 55g tank for the time being before you upgrade to a 125g.

I think you read it wrong he wants to upgrade to a 29 gallon not a 125 gallon.....

they will also attack you as well as everything else.....the filter intakes, the heater, the siphon hose, etc. They have large conical teeth similar to reptiles and they are very sharp and the bite from a large Red Devil or Midas is very powerful and draws blood

also the glass on a 29 or even a 55 gallon is really not ideal thickness for such a fish. It can break 1/8" glass and they do ram the sides of the tank randomly.

Don't forget they will attack you! Mine drew blood from me. Hes a sick son of a ***** I had to get rid of him. He was too crazy in a 200 gallon by himself the owner put him in a 1500 gallon tank filled with cichlids.
