Well since the death of my huge TT Eel...I have came to the decision that I want to take the plunge and get into the adventure of the Larger Polys...:headbang2

What size differences can these guys tolerate together?
Whats the best diet to have them on?
Can all species of these guys be housed together?
Take it that the water params are just the same as the other Ancient fish species?
Take it that sand would be best option for substrate?
Would it be best to have and open tank or hiding spots? If so all's I plan on useing would be driftwood-Is that fine?
Lighting options? Bright or dim?

Who is the guy to talk to on ordering me some?

Thanks and appreciate any info given...

Thanks....

So then I guess...
what about water params on these guys?
On the diet then...I have a huge problem getting anything decent for pellets up my way...would diet of RAW seafood and earthworms be good for a long period of time?

What species get the largest of them?

Depends on the individual, really. Endlis are notorious for eating other polys. With upper jaw species, I've gotten away with a 6-7" difference, although if Endlis or other lower jaw species are mixed with smaller species, you may want to only have a difference of about 4-5". However, full-grown polys should all be fine together, with a few exceptions listed below.
Whats the best diet to have them on?
They'll eat pretty much anything, the best thing to do is to just have a variety of foods for them. Pellets, silversides, shrimps, tilapia, or anything else you want to give them.
Can all species of these guys be housed together?
Fully grown, yes. However, it would be risky to keep the smallest species together with some of the larger species. For example, mokes or albino sens with large endlies. Most others should be fine together though. Also, watch out for ornates, as some can be nippy towards other fish. Most are fine though.
Take it that the water params are just the same as the other Ancient fish species?
Pretty much, they're fine with almost any water params as long as the quality is good.
Take it that sand would be best option for substrate?
Very true, sand or very fine gravel is usually best as polys can sometimes choke or swallow and become impacted by large gravel.
Would it be best to have and open tank or hiding spots? If so all's I plan on useing would be driftwood-Is that fine?
Hiding spots are good, driftwood is fine. Just make sure there's enough for all of them.
Lighting options? Bright or dim?
Either is fine, they do like somewhat dim lighting though.

Check out Toyin at rehobothaquatics, his website is here: http://www.rehobothaquatics.com/index2.html
He's pretty much got the best polys around, and his prices are usually very reasonable. Just email him if you have any questions on specific stock availability, sometimes his stocklist is a little outdated.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: Just saw your second post. That diet sounds fine. P. Endlicheri Congicus is rumored to get the biggest, normal endlis and ansorgii also get pretty big. You could keep numerous lowerjaw polys together, provided they're similarly sized. How big is the tank?

Thanks that info helps greatly and was exactly the type info I was looking for....

The tank is a 270 ( 8'x2' ) gal that will house a 23 inch clownknife that is a darn baby.
I have been refereed to that vendor multiple times now..I checked the site the other day and was happy.....

Could you please help alittle further since I'm still gathering required info though.
I'm not familar with lower jaw and upper jaws yet...
If you could pick roughly the stock for this tank....what species would you go with at what size roughly should I get them?

Thanks a bunch man......:headbang2

Ah, in a 270g you could keep almost any polys you want. Since you have the room, I would recommend the larger polys, like Endlicheri, Endlicheri Congicus, Lapradei, and Ornates. There are a few others, but they tend to be a bit more pricy. Personally, I would get them as large as you could, since it would lessen the risk of one growing faster than the rest and eating the smaller ones. If you want to grow them out that could work too, although if you would plan on growing them out in the 270g, that clown knife could pose quite a threat to smaller polys.

I see....Depending on the looks of them and the quality-Price is not a factor generally speaking.....I do want to start on the larger size and will try to get as large as possible...shipping here is the other problem i have...Vendor better be good at it or alot of money will be lost on both ends......
I do not plan on starting small-I will say that I will atleast keep it to over the 10 inch range for the smallest option......I have no problem heavily feeding as seafood is cheap for me to get.....So hopefully will minimize the risk of cannibalism.
FYI-My clownknife will not eat anything that isn't a goldfish:irked:-He poses no threat what so ever.......

As for shipping, I will say that I have had at least 10 fish shipped to me from Toyin and have never lost a single one. Honestly, I don't even remember hearing of anyone getting DOAs from him.
As for the sizes and feeding, that sounds fine. If they're similarly sized and well-fed, you most likely won't run into any problems.
And the CK's dietary habits are good if you want to keep polys with it, although I imagine it's not much fun feeding it.

Thanks..
I have to wait for my water params to equal out(cycle).....shouldn'y be much longer...once that is in order I will get my butt in gear and get ahold of Toyin then and see what's up about getting me some of these things on the way up here:headbang2
Once again I greatly appreciate the info you have given-it has helped me greatly on researching further now......:nilly:

I have tried to break that darn CK several times over the last 5 years......I cave after 2 to 3 months of it not eating...it gets so skinny and then gets picked on by my other fish......it's sad to have it on a feeder diet..I know it's not the best options...lol...But he is more stubborn than I am I assume.....Even with fresh seafood being dropped right on his nose-he just shows zero intrest.......

Glad to hear, good luck with getting some polys!
And sorry about your CK, I guess some fish just never give in...
