OK,So I had to move out of my place. Sucks,I know. Now I have to sell my 500 gallon tank. I am moving into a place that is all upstairs. The big question is... How big of a tank can I have ? I was thinking a 150 would be ok. I have had 125 in an upstairs place before and had no trouble. Any experience out there?

Sorry I can't be more help, all of my tanks are downstairs on a concrete slab.

I personally wouldn't put anything over a 90 in an upstairs area. With a 90's water already weighing in at 750 lbs you're already putting quite a bit of weight in one space. This doesn't even include the glass, stand, substrate, filters, etc.

An upright player piano weighs in at around 900lbs and I sure wouldn't want one of those in my house upstairs.

A 125 (1040lbs water only) or a 150 (1250lbs water only) may work as well considering that at 6' it should span across at least one more floor joist. But of course, that choice would he yours to make.

Hopefully the above link helps a little more than me :)

I have had about a 200 gallon worth in one place. 120 with 40 gallon sump with tons and tons of rocks and sand.

So you are that guy from another thread about an every Saturday cleaning, hehehe...

I have done research before I put my 250 gallon in my apartment. We have a concrete floor by the way so it may be different. You should seek building codes around your area. Concrete alone can handle 50 lbs per square foot of dynamic load while the dead load will be much greater. When it comes to wood, I will not even bother putting past 90 gallons since keeping fish is a long term thing. You spill water and the water weakens wood through time.

My house, not my parents, has top middle and basement, I've kept a 90 up top no prob, if ur house is modern (2000+) your good imo.

Atleast have it next to wall so it support.

I had my glass 145g upstairs in my apartment, but my stand was metal so that cut down on weight
