Hey i feel like trying to breed some convicts. I found some on craigslist for breeding pairs for 5 dollars. I only have one empty tank right now. But its only 10 gallons!!! My dad wont let em get a new tank though so im kinda stuck. Any ideas? Could they still breed in the 10??? I have a 7 gallon tall hexagon tank that i could use for a fry tank. a 20 gallon pond in the yard that i could set up inside. Id rather be able to see what the fish are doing though though.

Let me know what options i have with convicts

You can easily breed them in a 10 gal. I only breed mines in 10 gal aquariums.. Many people might disagree and say 20 gallons would be smallest but i've been doing it for 8 years with them breeding once every 2-3 weeks.

A 10g tank is perect for breeding pair of Cons....Here is what you do:

1) No substrate(gravel)
2) Lay a flowering pot on its side to act as a cave....
3) Leave temperature at 78-82 degrees.....
4) Feed the pair a staple(regular) food of Hikari pellets....Add some tubifix worms and brine shrimp to their diet...
5) There should be aggs within a week or two at the most.......

Cons are very easy to breed...if I can breed them, anyone can lol
The only problem though is raising the fry(babies). Your tank would work for housing a breeding pair, but you also need space for the fry.
