I have a 20 long and a 20 tall that i want to change to tile. How hard is it? What do you use to hold it down? I do have fish in both tanks right now. I have an extra 10 gallon i can put the fish in for no more then two days if i have to. The 20 long is my 4 and 7 year old girls tank. It is a tetra tank overstocked, have now banned there mother from buying more fish. Anyway the other has one pair of cons in it. After i tile the tanks if i do the tetras are going in the tall and cons are going in the breeder tank. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use slate in one of my tanks and don't have any ph issues. Also don't use ceramic tile as it is very porous and not really good for submerged use. It is very easy to install. Measure, cut to fit your footprint, lay it in. I don't see the need to grout it, as I like the idea of being able to pull it out if I want. I just make sure I vacuum at the seams and lift up the pieces every now and then to suck out the few things that do get under.

They also sell 3D backgrounds (just google 3D aquarium backgrounds) and some of the simple ones are just rock looking, you could use that on the bottom as well - would look a LOT more natural than bathroom tiles.

For that you'd have to drain / dry the tank and silicone it down though.
